YouTube ends support for 2012 Apple TV

Starting next month, you won’t be platform YouTube is available for streaming on the third-generation Apple TV, which was first released in 2012.

She informed Reports That a message is displayed to users warning them of the upcoming change, and that the change is not affected by the fourth and fifth generation devices from Apple, which are currently sold by the company and work with the tvOS system and have a built-in app store.

The complete message displayed to users says: Starting in early March, the YouTube app will no longer be available on third-generation Apple TVs.

She added: You can still watch YouTube on 4G and 5G devices, iPhone or iPad.

You can also broadcast YouTube using AirPlay from your iOS device directly to any third-generation or later Apple TV.

While it will not soon be possible to play YouTube locally via the third-generation Apple TV devices themselves, owners are still able to stream the service from an iPhone or iPad using AirPlay.

Other streaming services are also gradually dropping out of support for older device models, as HBO withdrew Last year it implemented HBO Now from its second and third generation Apple TVs, after the move was initially delayed due to the pandemic.

And these apps won’t be the last either.

While the latest Apple devices run across the tvOS operating system and feature a built-in app store, the apps included in Apple’s legacy streaming devices have relied on streaming services that work directly with Apple to provide support.

Apple has always put development support in the two latest versions of Apple TVs that run a full iOS-based operating system, and older broadcasters have relied on special arrangements between Apple and video providers to support the apps.

Smart TVs sold in recent years provide other ways to display YouTube on the big screen using built-in apps, AirPlay and Chromecast built-in, and affordable streaming devices, such as Amazon Fire TV, which also works with Apple TV + video streaming service.
