Launched a company (Lego) Lego is a new social video service for augmented reality called Vidiyo, which allows users to create and share music and dance videos with friends, all while applying their own effects and patterns across the videos.
The service looks very similar to TikTok, but it targets younger kids between the ages of seven and ten with the strict supervision built in, along with a Lego twist.
The gaming company is partnering with UMG, so there will be a variety of licensed songs from actual bands to choose from.
Vidiyo works by selecting a song in the app from a variety of UMG artists, and you can then create your own band from a set of new LEGO minifigures characters, which can be customized to different scales through the in-app augmented reality technology.
Special effects can also be added using BeatBits, which are new LEGO squares that, when scanned, add various digital AR effects in the app..
Pressing the BeatBits set in the app plays the dance moves, audio and video effects for 60 seconds, which can be scaled down into shareable clips of 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds long.
The clips can then be uploaded to the app feed, but once the content has passed moderation.
“The clips are moderated before they are published, and anything containing the child’s face, identifying information or anything unwanted is blocked,” Lego said.
LEGO hopes that one of the key aspects that sets Vidiyo apart will be moderation of contentAll content uploaded via the app must pass the moderation test first, and any content that contains personally identifiable information, such as real people in the video, will not be uploaded.
Lego Vidiyo has been described as a completely new way of playing that helps children fulfill big dreams by directing, producing, acting and sharing their own music videos, using tracks from all over the world.
There is still a lot of information Lego has yet to reveal about Vidiyo, including the cost of the kits, but the company promises that more information will be on the way before the first Lego Vidiyo products are launched worldwide in March.
