Super Mario Bros is breaking the record for the most expensive game

A sealed copy of Game Classic Super Mario Bros from NES for $ 660,000 at Heritage Auctions on Friday, more than four times the previous record for the most expensive game ever.

This includes $ 550,000 for the seller and $ 110,000 for the auction platform, with the highest amount coming after 13 bidders submitted 36 distinct bids, including large proxy bids before the live auction began on Friday afternoon.

The seller of the sealed version, who requested anonymity to publicly, told the auction platform that the game was purchased as a Christmas gift in late 1986 and had remained untouched in the office drawer for 35 years before its discovery.

The sale obliterated the previous record for the video game auction platform, of $ 156,000, which was paid for a rare sealed copy of Super Mario Bros 3 that was sold last November.

And that’s after the Rally Collections platform paid $ 140,000 for the sealed Super Mario Bros last year, a previous record for that game.

And according to For a platform Heritage Auctions, the copy sold yesterday is very special, as it’s the best version sealed in plastic with a cardboard perforated hanging tag, and it’s also the oldest sealed version of Super Mario Bros we’ve had a chance to showcase.

She added: This is only the fourth version of Super Mario Bros ever produced, and its production window was remarkably short, and in order to paint a better picture, the national version came for the platform in mid to late 1986, and it did not have black box games distributed. This release has Game Pak NES-GP code.

It is worth noting that Nintendo was able to add the trademark symbol to the Nintendo Entertainment system via their game boxes by the beginning of 1987.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that Super Mario Bros has kept the record, as a copy of the American version of the game was sold for $ 114,000 in July 2020, which broke the record of $ 100,150 set by another version of the game in February 2019.
