Samsung SSD 980 NVMe sets a new standard for performance

Announced a company Samsung announces the SSD 980 NVMe, the latest SSD, and the successor to the 970 Evo, the consumer first NVMe M.2 PCIe 3.0 disk without DRAM.

The new SSD 980 NVMe provides the highest performance among non-DRAM SSDs, making blazing NVMe speeds within the reach of a much larger group of users.

“Through hardware and software innovation, the new SSD 980 NVMe brings more value without compromising advanced NVMe performance,” said KyuYoung Lee, Biz Team Vice President for Memory Brand Products at Samsung.

He added: The 980 model provides an excellent combination of speed, energy efficiency and reliability, making it suitable for everyday PC users and gamers as well as content creators.

Designs without DRAM were a speed drawback without short-term memory for fast data access.

The Samsung SSD 980 NVMe uses HMB technology, which connects the disk directly to the processor’s DRAM to overcome any performance flaws.

This technology, combined with the company’s latest sixth-generation V-NAND plus controller and enhanced firmware, enables the 980 to deliver NVMe performance at six times the speed of a SATA SSD.

The sequential read and write speeds are up to 3,500MB and 3,000MB / s, while the random read and write performance is rated 500K IOPS and 480K IOPS, respectively.

The newly upgraded Smart TurboWrite 2.0 feature also provides significantly improved sustainable performance over the past by allocating much more buffer storage space within the disk of up to 160GB, up from 42GB on the 970 Evo.

And for users who work with very large files or play graphics-heavy games, the new Full Power Mode that has been added to Samsung’s Magician 6.3 software allows the tablet to consistently run at peak performance to work and play without interruption.

In addition, consumers will not have to worry about overheating, thanks to the advanced thermal designs.

Thanks to the thermodynamic protection technology, nickel-plated control unit and heat distributor label solutions available in Samsung’s advanced 980 series, users can enjoy stable and reliable performance even during prolonged use.

The new tablet also features an improved energy efficiency of 56 percent compared to the previous 970 EVO, allowing laptop users to better manage energy use.

The SSD 980 NVMe is available at $ 50 for 250GB, $ 70 for 500GB, and $ 130 for 1 TB.
