Samsung is developing a dual-fold phone

Working a company Samsung is developing a dual-fold phone to add to its range, according to To report From Nikki Asian Review.

According to the article, the phone is folded into three parts using two hinges and could be announced as early as the end of this year.

The phone will be the third choice in Samsung’s lineup of foldable devices, as it joins the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, and both are expected to appear in new versions this year.

According to the report, the design is still being finalized, but the goal of the new design is for the fully exposed screen to reach an aspect ratio of 16: 9 or 18: 9 to avoid scaling issues found in the current Galaxy Z Fold 2.

It is noteworthy that the appearance of phones with multiple folds previously, such as the prototype of a foldable phone from Xiaomi is folded at two points, but the company has adopted a design that resembles a more foldable Galaxy Fold.

The Huawei Mate X2 foldable device also uses a design similar to that of Samsung, and it would be a bit ridiculous if Samsung worked on a double-fold design after others adopted its single-fold style.

It is possible that Samsung introduces a new type of foldable device to facilitate the transition of users to foldable phones.

Samsung says it might skip the new Galaxy Note this year, but it wasn’t entirely clear why.

There has been talk of streamlining phone offerings and a global chip shortage, but this could be a test to see if Galaxy Note users are ready to go.

By giving customers three foldable options to choose from, Samsung can try to make it as likely as possible that people will find an option that works for them.

The dual-fold version of the phone will likely depend on whether Samsung can figure out how to overcome the chip shortage that has affected the entire industry.

Foldable phones are more difficult to make than standard smartphones, and if Samsung can’t get the chips it needs, the company’s plans may be pushed back.

However, it is interesting to hear that Samsung is working on a third type of foldable phone, as this indicates that the South Korean giant still sees the foldable form as the future.

Moreover, the report shows that Samsung is looking to boost production and sales targets for foldable devices in 2021.

Samsung previously patented some dual-fold smartphone designs, including one that appeared in late 2020.
