Progress a company Samsung, with its 2021 4K and 8K QLED TV lineup, is an environmentally friendly solar-powered remote that the company claims is reducing tons of plastic waste annually and increasing its efforts to reduce its environmental impact.
The Eco remote control from the front looks like any remote control for Samsung TVs from recent years, but the back includes a long panel of solar cells that can charge the internal battery.
The South Korean company made the remote control from 31 grams of plastic, and Samsung says 28 percent of it comes from recycled polyethylene terephthalate.
Samsung estimates that you will be able to use the Eco remote control for two years before its battery runs out and needs to be fully recharged.
All in all, the internal rechargeable battery is designed to last approximately seven years, or the average life cycle of a single TV set.
This definitely saves you buying a bunch of AAA batteries over the years, and the reduction in plastic waste is noticeable as well.
The USB-C port is located at the bottom if you need to charge the remote control faster for any reason.
The remote control can be powered by solar cells via the indoor and outdoor light, or the regular USB port if the previous two are not sufficient.
Samsung also continues its green packaging efforts in 2021.
The company offers a sustainable solution that can recycle up to 200,000 tons of boxes annually and turn them into pieces of home decor by eliminating oil-based ink and expanding environmentally friendly packaging for all models of Lifestyle and QLED TVs.
After you’ve unpacked your TV, you can scan the QR code on its box for instructions on how to turn it into something you might want to keep.
Samsung has partnered with Architecture and Design Journal Dezeen in a competition that encouraged people to devise smart ways to reuse cardboard boxes.
