Samsung ends support for old Galaxy Gear devices

Plans a company Samsung to end support for a number of its Galaxy Gear wearables at the launch of the Galaxy S21 series at an Unpacked event in early January.

And there was a time when Samsung released its wearable devices under the name Gear, not Galaxy, and among them was the first smartwatch of the Galaxy Gear, and the first fitness tracker, Gear Fit.

And according to To report New, there are quite a few Samsung smartwatches and fitness trackers that won’t work with the new Galaxy S21 series.

Other new Samsung phones, such as the Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A52, also make these older devices incompatible.

And here are the wearables that allegedly won’t work with the Galaxy S21:

  • Samsung Galaxy Gear.
  • Samsung Galaxy Gear 2.
  • Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Neo.
  • Samsung Gear S.
  • Samsung Gear Fit.

Samsung announced, through a notice in its Samsung Members app in Germany, that the old Gear devices will not be compatible with phones that will appear in 2021.

The notice says: The current quality of service for Samsung Gear wearable devices cannot be guaranteed through app updates alone, and old Samsung Gear wearables can no longer be used with new Samsung smartphones released next year.

Users of these wearable devices are notified via notification from the Galaxy Wearable app if the device is no longer supported.

The report claims that these devices will continue to work with old Samsung smartphones, but you will not be able to use them with the Galaxy S21.

Samsung has provided massive support for the Galaxy Gear devices in the past, but it appears that the shelf life of these devices is nearing the end.

As the report notes, it’s unclear what Samsung has planned for the Gear S2 and Gear S3, both of which are a few years old now.

And if you have one of these older devices and use it with a phone released in 2020 or earlier, you can continue to do so in 2021.

Samsung has a lot of smartwatches and fitness trackers available in the market, which means there is no shortage of options.

The company recently launched its titanium watch, Galaxy Watch 3, which you can find in the US for $ 599.

We should know more information about the veracity of the report after Samsung unveils the Galaxy S21 series.
