The Snapdragon 870 represents the latest chip in the Snapdragon 8 series from the company, and it is an upgraded version of Snapdragon 865 from last year.
The processor features an improved Kryo 585 core at a speed of up to 3.2 GHz, which makes it about 10 percent faster than the Snapdragon 865 at a frequency of 2.84 GHz, and it is about 3 percent faster than the Snapdragon 865 Plus at a frequency of 3.1 GHz.
The new Snapdragon 870 is not much different from the Snapdragon 865, and unlike the faster core core, the only clear difference between the two is the supported Bluetooth version.
And while the Snapdragon 865 features Bluetooth 5.1 support, the Snapdragon 870 offers Bluetooth 5.2 support.
The processor can run 1440-pixel monitors with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, or 4K screens at a 60 Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR10 +.
The new Snapdragon 870 powers a new generation of flagship devices from several notable manufacturers, including Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo and iQOO.
The disclosure of this processor came in view of the growing demand for affordable flagship smartphones, and devices that contain this chip are expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2021.
The new processor is compatible with the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus processors, as it comes with the same design, right up to the Kryo 585 core and the Adreno 650 GPU.
Qualcomm says: The reason for introducing the new chip is to respond to the requirements of manufacturers and the market.
The Snapdragon 870 is designed for companies that want to offer a top-tier processor but don’t need the absolute best of features that the flagship Snapdragon 888 offers and the higher price it requires.
Instead, the company says: It expects prices for phones equipped with the new processor to reach less than $ 800.
There should also be a marketing aspect here, as the new brand Snapdragon 870 and modest improvements in speed even compared to the Snapdragon 865 Plus mean that companies that use the chip in their phones get a new chip for 2021 in order to enhance the spec sheet. No worries that clients would say the therapist is out of date.
