Japan is preparing to issue vaccination passports

mentioned The Nikkei Asian Review reports that Japan is preparing to issue digital health certificates to citizens vaccinated against Corona VirusTo join China, the European Union and other countries, they have taken similar measures and adopted passports for vaccines in order to open travel abroad.

The certificate can be managed via a mobile app and will be in line with international standards, allowing the carrier to present evidence of vaccination when boarding a plane or checking in to a hotel.

The epidemic caused a major blow to international travel, with air traffic dropping by two-thirds last year, and the tourism industry was even worse.

Some argue that vaccination passports are a panacea for reinvention, even though fair questions hinder their use.

The government is considering adding the certificate to an application that will be presented next month that carries a digital certificate for negative test results, and the information is linked to a new system that tracks the progress of the government vaccination program.

In addition to Japanese citizens traveling abroad, the app also targets foreigners residing in Japan and returning to their home countries.

The government is warning against using passports for vaccines for domestic travel, and Norihisa Tamura, Japan’s health minister, said the documents could lead to discrimination and prejudice – a view also espoused by some lawmakers in Parliament.

The government does not plan to use vaccine passports for the Go To Travel campaign to spur tourism demand, even if the program resumes.

The European Union plans to release vaccine certificates by summer, and visitors to the European Union from Japan may be required to show their certificate when boarding a plane.

China released its own version of the vaccine passport this month, although it still requires travelers who have been vaccinated to quarantine after their arrival in the country.

In determining its accreditation criteria, the Japanese government will refer to the European Union certificates in addition to the CommonPass digital certificate called for by the World Economic Forum.

Japan issued a paper certificate, and those who received the vaccine will be able to attach the vaccination certificate to a voucher issued by the local government to prove vaccination.
