open a company Huawei has launched its wearable ecosystem in front of third-party developers in an effort to attract more buyers.
Huawei smart watches operate via LiteOS, a proprietary program that does not currently support third-party applications.
As a sign of its intention to open up its ecosystem, the Chinese giant has released its popular fitness app Fitify For Watch GT 2 Pro.
It contains a database of more than 900 exercises and more than 200 million completed exercises, from 10 million users in 170 countries and 18 languages.
Although Huawei’s smartphone business is struggling in the face of ongoing US sanctions, the company is doing fairly well in the wearables business.
Last year, while the smartphone business saw a 42.4 percent year-on-year decline in shipments, smartwatch shipment volume jumped 90 percent year-over-year in China and Asia and 50 percent globally.
As a result, the news indicates Huawei is looking to reduce smartphone production this year, but it is opening its wearable devices to third-party apps to boost sales.
Huawei also announced its willingness to work with independent developers and brands to bring apps to its growing portfolio of wearables.
In a statement on the topic, Derek Yu, Vice President of Huawei Central, Eastern and Eastern Europe at Huawei Consumer Business Group said: We are the leader in the global market for wearables and are rapidly gaining market share for this category across many geographies.
“In the third quarter of 2020, we shipped 10.7 million wrist wearable products globally, an increase of 88.1 year-on-year with a market share of 19.5 percent,” he added.
By making Fitify the number 1 Huawei third-party app for its wearable products, it is sending a message to several other app developers.

To attract developers further, Huawei plans to provide a comprehensive operational support solution for all application content providers interested in launching applications for its wearables, so that the solution covers everything from thinking, development and distribution to operation and data analytics.
The company has also developed unique integration sets to help developers increase the AppGallery list of their apps.
