Before the US ban … WeChat is seeing an increase in downloads

Washington confirmed that it is moving ahead with the planned US ban on (WeChatTuesday’s data showed that the messaging app owned by Chinese technology giant Tencent has seen an increase in downloads in the United States since Friday.

The US Commerce Department issued an order asking Apple and Google to remove WeChat for reasons of national security, but a US judge blocked the move on Sunday, and the US Commerce Department said on Monday: It will challenge the matter.

WeChat was installed about 54,000 times between Friday and Saturday, 28 times the number of downloads it saw during the same period a week ago, according to the data analytics company (Sensor Tower).

Sensor Tower said: WeCom, a desktop collaborative app, also saw a jump in downloads in the US during that period.

The United States has launched a series of measures in recent months to crack down on Chinese technology companies, citing reasons related to national security, as Beijing and Washington spar over issues ranging from trade and technology to dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

The company said Tencent, which denied that its applications pose a threat to national security: The application updates for existing users in the United States may be negatively affected if Apple and Google remove the application from application stores in implementation of the US ban.

WeChat is an all-in-one app that combines messaging, social media, payment functions, and other services, and boasts more than one billion users worldwide.

WeCom, the renamed WeChat Work app, was installed just days after US President Donald Trump first announced that he would ban WeChat in August, about 58,000 times in the US on Friday and Saturday, that’s 193 times. The number of times it downloaded it during the same period a week ago.

He showed Test Reuters after WeCom downloaded that users can now link their WeChat account and add their WeChat contacts.

WeCom users can then send messages, create chat groups, and receive virtual money from WeChat friends without their WeChat contacts having to download WeCom.

Tencent told Chinese media: WeCom is a completely different product from WeChat.
