has evolved a company Apple’s virtual reality headset includes a fabric design, a fan and a hefty price tag, but the prototype faced many development hurdles, and the company had conservative sales forecasts, which shows how difficult it is to introduce this emerging consumer technology to the masses.
It is reported Agency Bloomberg says Apple’s first virtual reality headset may launch as soon as possible in 2022 as a standalone battery-powered device, similar to Oculus Quest 2.
As a virtual reality device, the headset displays a comprehensive three-dimensional digital environment for games, video viewing and communication, and the augmented reality function, and the ability to overlay images and information on a real-world view, will be more limited.
Apple plans to launch the product as soon as possible by 2022, to face Oculus from Facebook and Sony’s PlayStation VR.
This time, Apple is not looking to create an experience that resembles its iPhone experience for its first headphones, and instead the company seeks to build a specialized advanced product that will prepare external developers and consumers for the most popular virtual reality glasses.
The plans indicate that the first Apple glasses will be much more expensive than their competing counterparts, which cost between $ 300 and $ 900.
Some Apple insiders believe that the company might sell just one glasses per day per retail store, and Apple has roughly 500 stores, and according to this scenario, annual sales would be just over 180,000 units – excluding other sales channels.
This scenario would put it on a par with other expensive Apple products, such as its Mac Pro desktop at $ 5999.
And Apple is developing some of the most advanced and powerful chipset for virtual reality glasses that are not yet announced, along with screens that are much higher than those in current virtual reality products.
Some of these chips that were tested in the device outperformed Apple’s M1 Mac processors, and the company also designed the glasses with a fan, something the company usually tries to avoid with mobile products.
The sunglasses are codenamed N301 and are still in the late prototype stage and have not yet been completed, so the company’s plans can be changed or canceled completely before launch.
Powerful manipulations and an initial fan inclusion resulted in an extra large and heavy device with some concern about neck strain in early testing.
Apple has removed augmented reality gadgets normally reserved for users who need to wear glasses, which helped shrink the size.
And for consumers with low vision, the company has developed a system through which custom prescription lenses can be inserted into the headphones via virtual reality screens.
Apple uses an external fabric to reduce the weight of the headphones, and this is a departure from the metal designs that the company uses for most products, although it used plastic for devices such as AirPods and fabrics for the HomePod speaker to improve the acoustics.
The headset’s prototypes, some of which are the size of the Oculus Quest, include external cameras to enable some augmented reality features.
The company is testing the use of cameras for manual tracking, and is developing a feature where the user can virtually write in the air to enter text.
It is unclear if this functionality will be ready for the first release of the device or whether it leaves the exploratory stage.
The company is also still grappling with the content and functionality it intends to ship with the device, as virtual reality is still a fairly young technology, and non-gaming content is still relatively limited.
And last year, Apple acquired a company called NextVR, which was recording events like concerts and sports in virtual reality.
App Store bundling has also been discussed with the device, which runs on an operating system called rOS within the company.
It is reported that Apple added augmented reality to the iPhone for the first time in 2017, which allowed the presence of new games and applications for mobile devices, such as those for placing furniture in your living room before you buy it.
