Apple releases iOS 14.6 to iPhone users

Issued a company Apple iOS 14.6, which provides updates to the Apple Card as well as new AirTag options for iPhone users.

The main feature of the new version of the operating system is Apple Card Family, which allows sharing an Apple credit card with up to five people in your Family Sharing group.

Apple recently announced this option, and promised that it would be an easier way to give young people access to payment options, as well as for many people to build a credit score together.

Access to the Apple Card can be granted to anyone over the age of 13 in the Family Sharing group.

Anyone 18 years or older can be a co-owner, with a combined credit limit, access to other users’ spending, and one monthly bill.

Meanwhile, anyone over the age of 13 can be a participant of the account, and its use is visible to co-owners and control purchase limits.

Participants over the age of 18 can also opt-in to credit reporting.

And there are options about limits and spending controls, so people cannot use their new virtual card.

There’s also a suite of expense tracking, and existing Apple Card users can merge two Apple Card accounts together, for a higher joint credit limit, and keep either account lower than the annual interest rate for the two accounts.

And Apple Podcasts adds subscription support for both channels and individual shows under iOS 14.6

And for AirTag and Find My, there’s a new Lost Mode option to add contact details, and instead of showing your phone number when someone finds and clicks AirTag on their NFC-enabled device, you can set an email address instead. AirTag also shows the owner’s phone number. Partially hidden.

This release also fixes the following issues:

  • Bluetooth devices may sometimes disconnect or transmit audio to a different device during an active call.
  • IPhone may experience low performance during startup.
