Preparing a company Apple to renew AirPods this year and second-generation AirPods Pro next year, according to to report New from Bloomberg.
The AirPods refurbishment is the first product update since March 2019. It adds a new design that mostly mirrors that of AirPods Pro.
The earphones come with a new case and shorter stems.
The second generation AirPods Pro – coming next year – marks the first change to this product since October 2019.
It may include updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking.
Apple had previously aimed to launch the new AirPods Pro early this year.
The update to the range of wireless earbuds enhances the company’s wearable, home and accessories segment.
The sector has grown to now represent more than $30 billion in annual revenue, exceeding 10 percent of total sales.
Apple introduced the AirPods Max in December, and these $549 headphones have been criticized for bugs and overpriced, with praise for their materials and sound.
Apple has recently absorbed the demand for the product, and is not currently working on the second generation AirPods Max, although it has discussed releasing different additional colors in the future.
New Apple devices:
As part of its broader strategy for home, audio, and accessories, Apple also began early development of a HomePod speaker with an integrated display as well as a device that combines the features of HomePod, FaceTime camera, and Apple TV.
Apple released the HomePod mini speaker last year and scheduled a minor update for the Apple TV last month.
For the new AirPods Pro, Apple also tested a smaller design that removes the stems.
This shape may appear for the first time through the new wireless earbuds bearing the Beats brand, which is scheduled to be announced next month.
And in an earlier report last year, Bloomberg said the upcoming AirPods Pro could ditch the stems entirely.
She explained that the new, smaller design may resemble the design of the Galaxy Buds Plus headphones from Samsung or the Pixel Buds from Google.
She noted that design challenges mean these plans can change. And its latest report says that Apple has tested this design, which does not appear to be guaranteed to appear in the final model.
