Apple is considering releasing a rugged smartwatch this year

Discuss a company Apple internally launched a durable smartwatch designed for use in extreme environments, according to To report New from Bloomberg.

The rugged smartwatch is aimed at athletes, hikers, and others who use the device in the most extreme environments.

The company is considering releasing it later this year, or in 2022, to better appeal to athletes.

And if released, the watch could offer basic functions similar to the regular Apple Watch, but with a more solid construction, such as a rubberized exterior.

The report also indicates that Apple is planning new swim-tracking features for its smartwatch.

The current version remains popular with runners, hikers, and swimmers, and Apple has added many sporting and activity tracking features with annual updates.

However, Casio and other watchmakers have seen strong sales of more stable product designs with added protection.

And Apple considered releasing a more durable version of the Apple Watch after the original model was released in 2015. But the plans never reached the stage of issuing a consumer device. There is a high chance that current plans will be canceled or delayed.

Although the company’s current watches are popular for tracking workouts, and are water resistant to 50 meters, they are not considered smart watches durable enough for extreme sports, such as water skiing, without additional protection.

This allowed other smartwatch companies like Suunto and Garmin to find a foothold in the market with more specialized devices.

If Apple goes ahead this time, the durable version will be an additional model similar to the way Apple is introducing the low-cost option called the Apple Watch SE and the special editions co-branded with Nike and Hermes.

The new product is supposed to offer the same functionality as the standard Apple Watch, but with additional shock resistance and protection.

Apple tends to release new smart watches in the second half of the year, and in addition to Apple Watch SE, the company last year released the Apple Watch Series 6.

However, the improvements were so frequent that they were not worth an upgrade for anyone who owns a Series 4 or Series 5 watch, while the durable version could provide a more substantial reason for an upgrade.
